Great column Chris. I am typing in Firenze as I type. I am also a history nerd yet my focus has been on American/French/Russian/Eng/German history. I am interested in the rise and fall of Rome and have I Claudius in the queue. Any recommendations for reading?
I, Claudius is a great start. If you're enjoying the historical fiction, Robert Harris' Cicero trilogy is amazing. Adrian Goldsworthy and Christian Meier both have excellent biographies of Caesar, too.
Carthago delenda est!
Good article, Chris. Stoicism is hard. "Toga! Toga! Toga!" is easy.
The Roman Empire had a major impact on the first century church. Good article. I think about it weekly.
Excellent

Excellent. Little known, but true story about Caesar.
One favorite of mine is Augustus demanding: "Where are my legions?", after Lucius Varus was annihilated at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest.
Love it.
